A unique cooking club, the G8 summit, spaceship squash fritters and Alice Waters's musings all to come after the jump.
Once a Month Cooking Club The “Once a Month Cooking Club” idea is yet another creative solution to the current economic crunch that many families and households are experiencing. These lovely ladies meet once a month to cook in bulk for their families. I’d be interested in seeing if this could work on a micro level (i.e. for a couple of couples or small families, instead of large families)…if anyone is interested in trying something like this in the Bay Area, let us know.
G8 summit: Food crisis, feasts and folding a kimono
Edward Gomez outlines the conversation, the participants and meals eaten at this year’s G8 summit. My personal favorite was one night’s menu which "consisted of 18 dishes in eight courses, including caviar, smoked salmon, Kyoto beef and a 'G8 fantasy dessert.' The banquet was accompanied by five different wines from around the world...The dinner came just hours after a 'working lunch' consisting of six courses[,] including white asparagus and truffle soup, crab and a supreme of chicken." Hawt dayzam! Did someone forget to mention the global food crisis?Well, at least they had a ‘working lunch.’ I believe that must roughly translate into eating so well and so much for so long that it becomes physically difficult. Jokes aside, the leaders of the world meeting to discuss global food shortages and policies is actually alright by me. Full information and details about the G8 summit can be found here. Recipe: Spaceship Squash Fritters and Another Buffy Night… Jenn's amazing fritter recipe inspires us to use up some of that gorgeous squash we’ve been seeing around…plus, they look like an awesome grilling alternative to beef for our veggie friends!
